The Power of Images

Images and their influence on thought and emotion have been often criticized by philosophers, if not rejected as sheer copies or simulacra of reality. However, the practice of philosophy, sciences and politics involves a great deal of imagination and is unconceivable without relying on the metaphorical use of language. What gives visual representations and metaphorical language their specific power? And which dangers are specific to political use of images borrowed from sciences?
